MailShelf v2 has been adapted to modern requirements and includes a variety of new features. At the same time, a few features that were considered either outdated or insecure have been removed.
Support for Microsoft SQL Server has been removed
MailShelf v1 could use and operate with Microsoft SQL Server in a multi-user environment. In MailShelf v2, we have completely removed support for Microsoft SQL Server for performance and cost reasons and replaced it with MariaDB Server/MySQL Server.
Multi-user environment using an internal database
MailShelf v1 could operate in a multi-user environment using both the internal database and Microsoft SQL Server. For performance reasons, we have decided to enable the multi-user environment in MailShelf v2 exclusively using a full database server (MariaDB or MySQL).
Help Viewer
In MailShelf v1, the program documentation/manual was provided and displayed via the zebNet Help Viewer. For performance reasons and others, we have decided to discontinue distribution via the zebNet Help Viewer. The current program documentation is now provided as a CHM file (industry standard). It can also be viewed directly in your browser.
Discontinued support for Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 8
In MailShelf v2, support for Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Windows Vista, and Microsoft Windows 8 has been completely removed. This was done because these systems have been discontinued for some time, and also because we had to remove them to modernize MailShelf v2. Due to the now small market share of these systems, this will not have a significant impact. MailShelf v1 is therefore the last product generation to support these systems. If you are still using Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 8, we recommend continuing to use MailShelf v1. Please note that both Microsoft Windows 8.1 and Microsoft Windows Server 2012 continue to be fully supported. Microsoft Windows 7 will continue to be fully supported.
Discontinued version history
Starting with the release of MailShelf v2, we will only provide the version history via the product documentation. The version history lists all changes to the program and is helpful for understanding what has changed with each update. For MailShelf v1, this was directly accessible via our website, but for practical reasons, we have decided to now only provide it through the product documentation.
